AMES, Iowa – Making 10 saves, junior goalkeeper Kristi Hestdalen became the program’s career saves leader, as the University of North Dakota women’s soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision on the road to Iowa State on Sunday afternoon.

Hestdalen now has 244 career saves, surpassing the mark of 239 set by Lauren Sera between 2006 and 2009.

“Breaking the record today is a tremendous personal accomplishment and we’re very happy for her,” head coach Matt Kellogg. “Over the last three games, we’ve seen Kristi become more aggressive on flighted balls into the box, where if she stays on the line it could cause a lot of problems. She’s becoming much more of a leader in the back and has been cutting out a lot of those plays that could cause us trouble.”

North Dakota was held to just one shot on goal in the match, coming off the foot of Michelle Stingle. Overall, Iowa State out-shot UND 32-1, with 14 shots for ISU landing on net.

“Despite the score, I am pleased with the group today,” Kellogg added. “We’ve been working over the past week of trying to do some new things tactically, and we’re starting to see the girls pick it up. Also, I have to remind myself that I have really only been working with the team for about a month, because of the spring and the bad weather. The group has come a long way in just a month, and I’m excited with their effort today and some of the tactical things that we were able to do today.”

The Cyclones entered the game having lost to in-state rival Iowa on Friday, but Iowa State took charge from the get go, scoring the opening goal in the fourth minute.

After the opening goal, the Cyclones scored two goals 34 seconds apart in the 37th minute to go up 3-0. In the second half, Iowa State scored one goal off of seven shots on net.

Having played the first six games of the season on the road, UND opens its home schedule hosting North Dakota State on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
