GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- A balanced scoring attack, a dominant edge in rebounding and huge contributions from its bench players powered North Dakota past Minnesota Crookston, 85-66, Saturday afternoon at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in exhibition play. Five different UND players notched double-digit point totals and UND owned a more than two-to-one edge in rebounding.

Josie Dillon led all UND scorers with 12 off the bench. Fellow reserve Siri Burck played 30 minutes and chipped-in 11 points and nine rebounds. Megan Lauck added 11 points while Madi Buck had 11 points to go along with 12 rebounds and Emily Evers made all five of her shots en route to 11 points.

The balanced scoring came thanks in part to distributing the basketball well, notching 27 assists on 34 made baskets. Ten of those assists came from freshman starting point guard Leah Szabla, who added six points and three steals in her first collegiate game.

UND scored on its first two trips down the floor but UMC hit back-to-back threes to take a brief lead. It would be short-lived, however, as North Dakota embarked on a 10-0 to take the lead for good. Burck would connect on threes in consecutive trips to drive the lead to eight as UND took a 45-37 edge into halfime.

North Dakota got 45 points from its reserve players, including 31 in that first half alone. It was a 14-0 UND stretch in the second half that would put the game away as Buck hit on a running jumper to get the margin to 23 at 79-56.

UND finished by outrebounding the Golden Eagles 53-26, including 19-8 on the offensive glass.

The last UND player to register 10 assists or more in a game was Danye Guinn in an 11-assist effort on Mar. 7, 2009 against Houston Baptist.

Katrina Moenkedick led UMC with 13 points with Alexa Thielman scored 10-- all in the first half-- for the Eagles.

North Dakota has one more exhibition game remaining, a Tues., Nov. 5 tilt against Bemidji State. Tip is set for 7:00 p.m.
