BEMIDJI, Minn. – Freshman forward Amy Menke scored twice for her first collegiate goals as the University of North Dakota women’s hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Bemidji State, downing the Beavers, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon.

“I thought it was a great team weekend, we had a lot of people stepping up and contributing,” head coach Brian Idalski said. “It was terrific to see Tori Williams and Kayla Berg on the score sheet and Menke break through with a couple today. We had a lot of people executing well today, it was a solid two wins for us today.”

All five of North Dakota’s goals were scored even strength as three players scored their first goals of the season.

Freshman defenseman Gracen Hirschy scored her third goal of the season just two minutes into the start of the game. Becca Kohler took an initial shot that rebounded off the mask of BSU goaltender Jessica Havel. Hirschy crashed the net to score the rebound goal.

In the second period Menke score her first collegiate goal redirecting a shot from freshman defenseman Halli Krzyzaniak. Less than three minutes later Tori Wiliams scored her first of the season after deflecting a shot from Sam LaShomb.

With five minutes left in the second period Menke netted her second of the game. Menke received a pass from defenseman Tanja Eisenschmid and put a short-side shot past Havel.

Before the end of the period Bemidji State capitalized on the power play to score its lone goal of the contest.

Freshman netminder Lexie Shaw made her second start in net for UND and recorded a total of 22 saves.

Senior assistant captain Kayal Berg then capped off the game’s scoring with an unassisted goal at the 11:22 mark of the third period. Berg created a turnover at the BSU blue line, drove to the net and fired a shot past BSU’s second goaltender Brittni Mowat.

North Dakota was unable to score with the man advantage, going 0-4 with power-play chances in the game. UND killed off five of the Bemidji State’s power-play opportunities.

UND now takes a weekend off for the Four Nation’s Cup tournament in Lake Placid, N.Y., but returns to action the following weekend, Nov. 16-17, with a trip to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
