GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The North Dakota women’s tennis team fell to Portland State on Sunday morning in a close match by a score of 4-3 in Big Sky Conference play at Choice Health and Fitness Center.

The loss ended a five-match winning streak for UND.

Portland State earned the doubles competition point to begin the match.

The duo of freshmen Lacey Sprinkel (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Faith Lee (Andover, Minn.) were the lone doubles winners for UND. They defeated Marina Todd and Sabina-Elena Preda with a score of 8-5 in No. 2 doubles.

UND began to rally in singles action, winning three of the matches.

Sprinkel and Lee also beat their singles competition. Sprinkel defeated Preda in No. 3 singles with sets of 6-2 and 6-2. Lee was victorious in No. 5 singles with scores of 6-0 and 6-2 against Alexa McDonald.

In No. 2 singles, junior Callie Ronkowski (Grand Forks, N.D.) defeated Todd with a score of 6-1 and 7-5.

North Dakota will travel to Flagstaff, Arizona to play Northern Arizona on March 15 at 11:00 a.m.

Corey Baldwin added 12 points, including this dunk, in the second half on Tuesday against Waldorf.
