WILMINGTON, N.C. – North Dakota junior Tyler Colling broke the school record in the pole vault today at the UNC Wilmington Seahawk Invitational, the indoor season opener for UND.

Colling, who hails from Forest Lake, Minn., won the event after clearing a mark of 4.90 meters. That broke the previous mark set by teammate Jordan Fisk one year ago at the same meet.

UND also received an event title from senior thrower Shawn Johnson. The Eveleth, Minn., native won the shot put with a mark of 16.40 meters. Teammate Ian Collins was fourth with a throw of 14.66 meters.

Johnson also took runner-up honors in the discus, with teammates Roman Waldera and Collins right behind in third and fourth place, respectively.

On the track, freshman Jared Michel was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.47 seconds.

Sophomores Jimmy Evers (15.04 seconds) and John LeClerc (15.09) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles, while freshman Drew Campbell placed third in the 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 6 minutes, 30.90 seconds.

UND is back in action next week at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational.
