Grand Forks, N.D. -- The North Dakota football team claimed the program's best Division I finish in both the STATS and FCS Coaches polls that were released on Monday following James Madison's 28-14 victory over Youngstown State in the title game this past weekend.

The Fighting Hawks landed in 12th place in both polls after entering the season ranked 19th in the STATS preseason poll and 21st in the coaches' poll. UND finished the campaign with a 9-3 overall record and shared the Big Sky title with No. 4 Eastern Washington (12-2) as both teams went undefeated in eight league contests.

UND reached as high as No. 8 in both polls late in the season and advanced to the FCS playoffs for the first time in program history, earning the No. 7 seed from the playoff committee.
