The University of North Dakota Athletics Department announced on Sept. 2, 2014, that it has signed a two-year contract with Home of Economy, making it the first-ever corporate sponsor of the UND Sports Radio Network. The network, now known as the Home of Economy UND Sports Radio Network, will include three Clear Channel Grand Forks stations plus 12 affiliates across the region.
The 12-station Home of Economy UND Sports Radio Network will provide UND fans with coverage in North Dakota markets Beulah, Bismarck, Devils Lake, Dickinson, Fargo, Grand Forks, Langdon, Minot, Williston and Wimbledon, as well as in Minnesota markets Mahnomen and Warroad.
Eleven of UND’s network affiliates will return from last season. UND has also reached an agreement with Dickinson’s KXDI-FM (93.9 “I-94 FM Drivin’ Country”), a 100,000-watt signal that will carry UND football and men’s hockey.
“Home of Economy values our long-term partnership with UND Athletics,” said Home of Economy co-Chief Executive Officer Wade Pearson. “This unique sponsorship opportunity is the logical next step for us. The network’s coverage across the state and region offers us excellent distribution of our brand and reach with our customer base.”
Clear Channel Grand Forks will once again serve as the flagship stations for UND Athletics. KQHT-FM (96.1 “The Fox”) continues as the home for UND men’s hockey and football, while KSNR-FM (100.3 “Cat Country”) will be the home for men’s and women’s basketball. Women’s hockey will once again air on KKXL-AM (1440 “The Fan”). Additionally, the UND Coaches Show will be carried live on Wednesday nights on KKXL-AM. Select volleyball and baseball games will also be heard on KKXL-AM.
There will also be daily two-minute "UND Sports Today" updates, which will air across most of the UND Sports Radio Network.
WDAY-AM 970 in Fargo returns and will carry UND football, men’s hockey and the UND Coaches Show, as well as the WDAY Game of the Week which will include various basketball, volleyball and women’s hockey games. In addition, both KFYR 550 AM and FOX Sports Radio 710 AM in Bismarck will carry football and men’s hockey games, with FOX Sports Radio 710 AM also carrying the UND Coaches Show on Wednesday nights.
The on-air talent for UND Athletics also remains intact for the 2014-15 season. Tim Hennessy returns for his 36th year as the voice of UND men’s hockey, while Jack Michaels returns for his fourth year as the voice of UND football. Paul Ralston (10th year) and Mitch Wigness (third year) return to call men’s and women’s basketball, respectively, and Darrin Looker returns for his ninth season as the voice of women’s hockey. Hennessy and Ralston will also call featured games for baseball and volleyball, respectively.
Hennessy and Ralston will team to host the UND Coaches Show every Wednesday night beginning Sept. 3 through the end of the men’s hockey season. The UND Coaches Show broadcasts live from the Ground Round Grill & Bar in Grand Forks at 6:30 p.m. Central. Fans are encouraged to attend the live show to interact with UND coaches and broadcasters while enjoying food and drink specials.
