GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's hockey team lost 2-1 to St. Cloud State tonight at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Ashley Furia of the Fighting Sioux scored first, but the Huskies scored two in the second and held on from there.

The Sioux (5-13-3, 4-12-1-0 WCHA) came out firing as they out shot the Huskies 10-3 in the opening frame but could not take advantage as the game was scoreless in the opening intermission.

Furia (Sedalia, Colo.) notched her sixth goal of the season at 5:33 of the second period as took advantage of a rebound given up by Ashley Nixon. Freshman Holy Perkins (Soldotha, Alaska) set up the goal dangling in the slot making room to put a shot on net. Junior Margot Miller (West Bloomfield, Mich.) also assisted on the goal.

The Huskies (9-10-4, 6-9-2-1 WCHA) rebounded to even the game at one when Felicia Nelson was able to force a turnover on an outlet pass out of the Sioux zone. Nelson brought the puck in one-on-one with Sioux netminder Jorid Dagfinrud and slipped it under the goaltender at 9:49. Nelson's goal was her 19th which is best in the nation.

SCSU would add their second of the period and the eventual game winner when Lisa Martinson scored on the power play with a slap shot from blue line at 14:37. The goal was Martinson's first of her freshman campaign.

After being outshot 8-6 in the second period, similar to the first period the Sioux would win the shot total in the final stanza to no avail in another scoreless period. UND finished the game with 27 shots to the Huskies 20.

Both teams will return to action tomorrow at 4:07 p.m. at the Ralph Englestad Arena to conclude the series and regular-season action between the two teams.
