Bears outlast Broncs rally attempt

GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- In the second elimination game of day two in the Great West Conference Tournament at Kraft Field, the No. 2 Northern Colorado Bears held on for 7-5 victory over the No. 6 Texas Pan American Broncs.

The Bears used a five-run sixth inning to open a 7-2 lead and outlast a ninth-inning rally attempt that saw the Broncs score three runs and pull within a 7-5 game with the bases loaded. 

UNC's Joe Sawicki picked up the win lasting 8.1 innings while throwing 118 pitches. He surrendered five runs off 10 hits and one walk before making way for Cameron Tallman who picked up his fifth save of the season.

Jarod Berggren led the Bears offensively going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run scored.

Mike McCarthy continued to swing a hot bat for the Broncs with a 3-for-4 day including one double and two runs scored.

The Bears advance to play in the 4 p.m. game Thursday against the loser of No. 1 Utah Valley and No. 4 New York Institute of Technology.

 

Tyler Follis had two more hits Friday to run his conference-leading batting average to .430.
