The UND Drive Blog will provide an inside look at the 2011 Fighting Sioux fall camp that began on Wednesday, Aug. 3. Before UND can begin its first official drive of the season vs. Drake on Sept. 1, the team will spend 29 days on a different kind of a drive as the Sioux will work hard to reach the common goal of being the best-prepared team at the Alerus Center on the evening of Sept. 1 against the Bulldogs and each subsequent game that follows.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - For true freshmen, getting through your first fall camp as a college athlete was probably challenging enough. Now, the newest Fighting Sioux football players have had going to class thrown on top of their busy schedules over the past two days.

The football grind has been scaled back with the introduction of college classes to their schedules, but for the new guys, it seems, just "staying focused" has been the biggest priority.

Check out the video as true freshmen Jer Garman (Marion, Iowa), Dwayne Brown (Fontana, Calif.) and Sean Meehan (Trevor, Wis.) discuss their fall camp experience along with the adjustment to the student part of being a student-athlete.

The newest member of the UND coaching staff Benny Boyd also chimed in on what he has seen from the freshmen in his position unit and also recalled being in their shoes.

News and Notes
-
The Fighting Sioux will go through a "mock game" on Thursday at Memorial Stadium with each facet of gameday being replicated during the afternoon practice session.
-That includes pregame warmups, running out of the tunnel and singing the fight song in the lockerroom along with everything in between.
-The players being held out of practice has gone a substantial amount this week, which is a good sign as the Fighting Sioux are just over a week away from the season opener vs. Drake. Among those players back on the practice field are back-up safety and punt returner Erik Mersereau (Port Washington, Wis.), reserve running back Spencer Bickel (Minot, N.D.) and linebacker Johnnie Lee Daniels (Miami, Fla.).
-Head coach Chris Mussman will hold a press conference on Friday to give a recap on fall camp and update the media on how different position battles played out.
