Sioux prep for GWC Championship at Tim Young Open

VERMILLION, S.D. - In the final meet before the 2011 Great West Conference Cross Country Championship, the Fighting Sioux placed third among Division I teams today at the University of South Dakota's Tim Young Invitational.

The Sioux finished the 8K race with a team score of 71, trailing first-place USD (29 points) and runner-up North Dakota State (33).

Senior Tyler Rose (Brainerd, Minn.) was once again UND's top performer, placing sixth with a time of 25:41.98.

Sophomores Dwight Mandimika (Harare, Zimbabwe) and James Dean (Brainerd, Minn.) joined Rose in the top 20. Mandimika clocked a time of 26:28.16, while Dean finished in 26:37.78.

UND will now take a week off before hosting the 2011 GWC Championship on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Ray Richards Golf Course in Grand Forks.
