UP NEXT FOR NORTH DAKOTA: Following a two-week hiatus, the Fighting Sioux return to Grand Forks to play their final two home matches of the regular season ... On Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m., the Sioux host Texas-Pan American and on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m., they entertain Houston Baptist ... Thursday's match will serve as UND's 'Go Green' match and on the team will recognize its seniors with a Senior Day presentation.

GO GREEN: In partnership with the UND Council on Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability and the City of Grand Forks, the North Dakota Fighting Sioux volleyball team has dubbed the Thursday, Oct. 27 match against Texas-Pan American as the 'Go Green' match.

Fighting Sioux fans are encouraged to show their support by decking themselves out in as much GREEN as possible, and by stopping by the UND Council on Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability and City of Grand Forks recycling informational booths.

And here are the extras:

  • The UND Council on Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability will be handing out FREE T-SHIRTS prior to the match. Didn't make it in time to get your free t-shirt? See if you can catch one as more will be tossed into the stands throughout the match.
  • All students in attendance will be treated to FREE POPCORN throughout the match.
  • Sioux Crew members, don't forget to wear your green! All Sioux Crew members who come to the game dressed in green will receive an EXTRA POINT!
  • The night will also serve as Residence Hall Night. Make sure to grab your roommate and as many friends from your dorm as you can because the best represented residence hall will receive FREE PIZZA!

SERIES HISTORY ... TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN

  • Overall: UND leads 6-0
  • Grand Forks: UND leads 2-0

SERIES OPENER: North Dakota's trio of Devin Trefz (Bagley, Minn.), Amanda Polzin (Hutchinson, Minn.) and Annika Smed (Albert Lea, Minn.) keyed an overpowering offensive attack as the Fighting Sioux rolled to a 3-0 sweep of Texas Pan-American on Sept. 19, 2009 at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center ... Trefz and Smed each had a match-high 12 kills, while Polzin added 10 to pace a Sioux offense that connected on a .303 attack percentage ... The UND defense was equally as stout, holding the visitors to .067 attack percentage ... Megan Langseth had 34 assists for the Sioux and Lindsay Vortherms had a team-high 10 digs.

REMEMBER LAST TIME: With a 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-15) win over Texas-Pan American on Oct. 15 in Edinburg, Texas, the Fighting Sioux tallied their fourth sweep in five matches and improved their record to 17-4 overall and 4-1 in the Great West Conference. UTPA dropped to 5-17, 1-4 GWC after falling victim to its third straight conference sweep ... UND held the Broncs to a .133 hitting percentage ... Leading the way for the Sioux was outside hitter Devin Trefz. The senior from Bagley, Minn., landed 12 kills on 17 swings for a .588 hitting percentage. She also led the team with a trio of service aces ... Sharing the setting duties, sophomore Ellen Krueger (Lakeville, Minn.) and redshirt freshman Nikki Husfeldt (Andover, Minn.) combined for 37 assists. Krueger also tallied three digs and a block assist ... Senior libero Taylor Bohannon (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) finished the match with a team-high 14 digs. Trefz and sophomore middle blocker Ronni Munkeby (Lisbon, N.D.) topped the squad with three blocks apiece.

SCOUTING THE BRONCS (7-17, 1-4 GWC GWC): Picked to finish fourth in the Great West Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, Texas-Pan American finished the 2010 season 9-22 overall and 4-8 in the league to finish fifth ... The Broncs went 1-1 during the opening weekend of Great West play with a 3-2 victory over Chicago State (Sept. 29) and an 0-3 loss to NJIT (Oct. 1) .... Following a five-set victory over Prairie View in non-conference action, UTPA dropped nine consecutive sets to GWC opponents, falling to Houston Baptist (Oct. 8), Utah Valley (Oct. 13) and North Dakota (Oct. 15) ... Prior to the trip to Grand Forks, the Broncs tallied a pair of non-conference sweeps at home with wins over Texas Southern (Oct. 18) and Huston-Tillotson (Oct. 22), but then fell 0-3 to New Mexico (Oct. 23) ... On offense, Ijanae Holman leads the team with 159 kills (2.41/set), Shauna Miller has recorded 449 assists (7.36/set), and Juri Franzen has landed 18 service aces ... On defense, Franzen leads with 258 digs (3.91/set) and Sarah Davis tops the squad with 47 blocks, including four solo stops ... Texas-Pan American is coached by Brian Vale, who is in his first season at the helm of the Broncs.

NOTING THE SIOUX (20-4, 6-1 GWC): Selected by the league's coaches to win the 2011 Great West Conference title, North Dakota finished the 2010 season 25-5 overall and 12-0 in the conference to win both the regular season and tournament title ... The Fighting Sioux bring an eight-match winning streak to this week's final home matches of the regular season ... Five of the eight wins came on the road, two were won against non-conference opponents, and during the span of 26 sets, the Sioux lost just two ... Heading into this week, senior outside hitter Devin Trefz leads the way with 224 kills (2.95/set) and 31 service aces (0.41/set) ... Redshirt freshman setter Nikki Husfeldt (Andover, Minn.), who was named the Oct. 18 GWC Offensive Player of the Week, currently leads the team and the conference with 866 assists (10.56/set) ... Senior libero Taylor Bohannon (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) has racked up a team-high 318 digs, and senior middle blocker Tia Russell (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) is just four blocks away from her 100th block this season. She leads the team with 96 stops (12 solo) ... North Dakota is coached by two-time Great West Conference Coach of the Year Ashley Hardee,who is in his third season.

CAN I GET YOUR ATTENDANCE PLEASE: In the Oct. 25 release by the NCAA, the University of North Dakota ranked 59th nationally in home attendance with an average of 852 fans (10 matches) ... No other Great West Conference team is listed in the top 75.

ON A NATIONAL SCALE: Due to North Dakota's transitional status, the Fighting Sioux are not included in the NCAA Division I national rankings. However, if they were, the Sioux would have a few things to brag about ... According to the Oct. 25 release by the NCAA:

  • UND would be ranked No. 14 with an average of 2.79 blocks per set.
  • UND would be ranked 18th with a .833 winning percentage.
  • UND would be ranked No. 33 with an average of 1.55 aces per set.
  • Senior outside hitter Devin Trefz would be ranked No. 48 with an average of 0.41 aces per set.

RECORD REWIND: The University of North Dakota volleyball program holds a 572-688-3 (.453) record all-time since the first game was played on Sept. 22, 1976. Under head coach Ashley Hardee, UND is 67-15 (.817).

PROTECT AND SERVE: All-time, the Fighting Sioux are 194-183 (.515) when it comes to defending their own court ... The Sioux are just six wins away from their 200th home victory.

LET'S GET BETTY TO RUMBLE: North Dakota is 58-29 (.667) all-time at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center, which opened prior to the 2004 season. Under head coach Ashley Hardee, UND is 26-2 (.929).

HELLO, NICE TO DEFEAT YOU: Since beginning the transition towards NCAA Division I status, the Fighting Sioux have met up with a number of first-time opponents ... Since that transition began in 2009, the Sioux have gone 18-12 when meeting an opponent for the first time in program history.
