GRAND FORKS, N.D. – If you’re looking for a taste of the Red River Valley, chances are it can be found Saturday at the Alerus Center as samples of the finest foods in the area will be available. The best part is they are free to the public and Fighting Sioux fans will serve as the voters for the second annual People’s Choice contest.

The event will be spliced into the North Dakota Sioux-per Tailgate Party once again as both professional and aspiring cooks will test their skills in a burgers and ribs Cook-off Challenge to be judged by a special panel of local celebrities and dignitaries. Some samples of these meats might also be available if your timing is right.

There are 15 teams registered for the burgers and ribs challenge, while 15 more area vendors will be in the running for the People’s Choice awards.

Here is a complete list of participants in the People’s Choice competition: Pizza Ranch, Blue Moose, The Tavern (Canad Inns), Sanders 1907, Italian Moon, Alerus Center, Grand Forks Country Club, Hugo’s Catering, Joe Black’s, UND Wellness Center’s Culinary Café, Skip’s Gourmet Grub, UND Alumni Association and Schwan’s.

Winners from both contests will be announced at halftime of the Green and White game that is scheduled to kickoff at 3 p.m.

Voting for the People’s Choice contest opens at Noon. There is also a free kid’s clinic featuring UND student-athletes from a number of different Fighting Sioux teams that will start at 1 p.m. in the Alerus Center. Registration for the kid’s clinic begins at Noon.
