GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota Athletics Director Brian Faison announced today that head volleyball coach Ashley Hardee has received a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the helm of the program through the 2016 season.

Through his first three seasons as head coach, Hardee has led UND to three straight Great West Conference Tournament championships and a 73-16 (.820) overall record, including a 31-3 (.912) conference mark.

A two-time GWC Coach of the Year, Hardee guided UND to GWC regular season titles in 2009 and 2010 and will lead his program into the Big Sky Conference in 2012.

“We have one of the great young volleyball coaches in the country in Ashley Hardee”, said Faison. “He is determined to make UND volleyball the best in the conference and a factor on the national scene. This contract extension is a clear statement of our mutual commitment to building upon the strong academic and competitive foundation he has established.”

Since taking the reins at North Dakota prior to the 2009 season, Hardee has produced nine first-team All-Great West honorees, four second-team honorees, five all-newcomer team members, back-to-back setter of the year award winners, two newcomer of the year award winners, the 2010 Great West Player of the Year, and a two-time GWC Tournament MVP.

In 2011, UND tied a program record with 26 wins and ranked 52nd among 327 schools in the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball RPI, which would have led the Big Sky Conference. Hardee’s 2011 squad also established program records for single-season home (13) and road (11) victories.

Hardee’s teams have gone 30-2 (.938) at home and 27-6 (.818) on the road during his first three seasons and have reached the 20-win plateau in each of those years.

Hardee will be available for media interviews at 2 pm today at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. Please direct all interview requests to associate media relations director Ryan Powell at 701.777.2986/701.213.5921 or ryan.powell@athletics.und.edu.
