GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Jack Michaels will be back in the radio booth broadcasting North Dakota football games through the 2015 season as Director of Athletics Brian Faison announced a four-year contract extension for the veteran sportscaster on Thursday. Michaels joined the football radio crew as the play-by-play announcer in 2011.

“We are thrilled that Jack has agreed to continue to be the voice of UND football,” Faison said. “He is an exceptional professional and was well-received by our fans last season. We’re excited about the partnership with him as we move into the Big Sky Conference.”

Michaels, who is also entering his second year as the sports director at Radio Fargo-Moorhead, is a native of Williston and has spent more than 20 years broadcasting in the Northern Plains. He spent the previous five seasons serving as the play-by-play announcer at the University of Mary in Bismarck.

“It is an exciting time to be a part of the North Dakota football program,” Michaels said. “Year one was a blast to work with the great professionals there at UND and our goal is to keep putting out a great product for the fans.”

Faison also announced that Michaels and long-time color announcer Mike Berg will have a new sideline reporter to work with as Brian Shawn will join the radio broadcast team for the 2012 season. The former KVLY sports reporter out of Fargo recently worked the sidelines for Midco Sports Network’s coverage of the North Dakota Shrine Bowl on July 14.

"I am thrilled to join Jack Michaels and Mike Berg on UND football radio broadcasts this fall,” Shawn said. “It's going to be a very exciting season with the team opening up play in the Big Sky Conference."

Shawn is currently working as a communications and community relations specialist at Globe University/Minnesota School of Business in Moorhead. The 2002 UND graduate won a “Teddy Award” for best sports reporter in the state of North Dakota in 2010.

The football radio crew’s first chance to broadcast a game through the 12-member North Dakota Radio Network this season will be on Thursday, Aug. 30, as UND opens its first season in the Big Sky Conference against South Dakota School of Mines at 7 p.m.
