GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- The University of North Dakota soccer team played to a disappointing 3-0 loss Sunday afternoon against North Dakota State in front of a new Bronson Field record crowd of 511. It was the first time the North Dakota collegiate rivals have played in Grand Forks since 2003.

Goalkeeper Sierra Bonham and the NDSU defense was the story of the game early as North Dakota came out strong and earned multiple scoring chances.

In the first 20 minutes of play, North Dakota outshot the Bison 8-2, but couldn't find the back of the net. Bonham made four saves, NDSU had two team saves and UND missed wide on two shots.

North Dakota concluded the game with a 18-8 advantage in shots and 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore Sam Harris (Bismarck, N.D.) did everything but score in that time with five shots, all on goal, including beating the goalkeeper twice however each time a Bison defender came up with a save to keep UND off the board.

North Dakota State weathered the storm and stole the momentum of the game in the 22nd minute. Holly Christian was able to win a battle in front of the UND net and beat netminder Kristi Hestdalen (Pierre, S.D.) who struggled to locate the ball in crowd of players.

Both teams settled into the game that turned mostly into a possession game in the middle of the field for the remainder of the half.

NDSU doubled its lead in the 62nd minute when Anisha Kinnarath was able to beat Hestdalen in a foot race as the UND goalkeeper attempted to challenge the one-on-one opportunity. Hestdalen got a piece of the shot that trickled across the goal line as UND defenders made late attempts to keep it out unsuccessfully.

The Bison concluded the games scoring in the 77th minute with some nice passing in front of the net to set up Brooklyn Dyce's first goal of the season.

Harris finished with a game-high six shots while senior Sheri Stapf (Lakeville, Minn.) added three and a pair of Fargo natives in Caitlyn Haring and Noel Scherer each had two. Haring nearly scored a highlight goal late in the game sending a shot off the crossbar from over thirty yards out.

North Dakota falls to 2-3-1 and will return to action next Sunday at Bronson Field in its final nonconference game of the season hosting Western Illinois. The Bison improve to 3-4-0.
