CHICAGO - Sophomore Amanda Fairweather (Maple Valley, Wash.) led North Dakota to a first-round score of 325 Monday at the Cougar Golf Classic. The Green and White are one of four teams tied for ninth overall and just 10 shots separate that quartet from second place.

However, it was IUPUI that was able to build a six-stroke advantage over Indiana State with an opening-round 309 (+21). Fairweather is tied for 13th in the individual standings after shooting a 77 (+5) on the par-72 course at the Harborside International Golf Center in the Windy City.

Fairweather was the only UND golfer able to break 80 on the day as senior captains Robin Hutchinson (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) and Shantel Montgomery (Minot, N.D.) both fired respective scores of 82 (+10).

Fellow classmate Megan Grozdanich (Grand Rapids, Minn.) and freshman Abbie Mozzetti (Hugo, Minn.) posted 84s (+12) with one of those scores counting towards the team total. Grozdanich is making her 2012-13 debut.

Fairweather led UND with 11 pars in her round, while Montgomery played the Par-3's at even par to share the tournament lead in that stat for day one. UND was +10 on the Par 3's, which was second best in the field.

Final round play in the tournament begins Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
