GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- North Dakota sophomore Nate Peterson enjoyed a third-place finish among Division I runners today at the annual UND Ron Pynn Invitational.

The race was held in front of nearly 100 UND track and field and cross country alumni on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

Peterson, a native of Horace, N.D., led all UND runners with a time of 26:16.0 on the 8K course at Ray Richards Golf Course.

Despite Peterson's best efforts, UND dropped its dual with North Dakota state and a warm and sunny afternoon.

NDSU recorded a team score of 18 points, while UND posted a team score of 40.

NDSU sophomore Brett Kelly captured medalist honors with a time of 26:11.8.

Aside from Peterson, UND's next-best performer was junior Sam Saccoman, who took seventh among dual runners (10th among 63 total runners) with a time of 26:33.4.

Several North Dakota alumni also competed in the race as part of UND's Homecoming 2012 weekend, including UND track and field/cross country legend Arjan Gelling.

Division II programs Mary and Minot State, as well as Manitoba, also competed in the meet.
