GRAND FORKS -- Monique Lamoureux scored three goals, as the University of North Dakota women's hockey team beat Minnesota Duluth 5-2 tonight at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

The win gives UND a sweep of the Bulldogs and improves its record to 9-5-0 and 8-4-0 in conference play.

Goals weren't coming so easy for Lamoureux earlier in the season. Things have changed.

"I'm just not tightening the grip on my stick as much, having more confidence and not forcing (it)," Lamoureux said. Lamoureux scored five goals this series, coming off a four points last weekend at Bemidji State. "As our team play has got better, I think my play has got better as well. I think you can attribute that to the team."

With the score tied 1-1, Lamoureux scored a power play goal to put UND up for good at 18:11 of the second. Lamoureux took the puck at the top of the left circle, made a UMD player miss and beat Bulldog goalie Kayla Black on the far side.

Lamoureux made it 3-1 at 5:32 of the third period. On a 3-on-2 rush, Lamoureux skated through the offensive zone, firing a wrister past Black.

However, it was her first goal early in the game that may have been the most important for UND.

"We thought with yesterday being an emotional, up-and-down game the first 10 minutes tonight would be extremely important dictating how tonight went," head coach Brian Idalski said.

At 3:20 of the first period, Lamoureux launched a shot from the top of the left circle. It deflected off the post and into the net, giving North Dakota a 1-0 lead. It was a bounce that didn't happen earlier this season.

Jocelyne Lamoureux and Josefine Jakobsen each scored for UND to make it 5-1 in the third period, before UMD's Bridgette Lacquette tallied one at 19:55 for the final result. Katie Wilson score the Bulldogs' other goal at 11:20 of the first period.

UND freshman goaltender Shelby Amsley-Benzie made 27 saves, getting the win. Black finished with 26 for UMD.

"It was a big win and a big weekend for us," Amsley-Benzie said.
