SERIES HISTORY ... DRAKE

Overall: Drake leads 4-1
Streak: Drake W4
Last:  @Drake 74, UND 60 (12/1/11)
*Series began in 1976 (UND 59, Drake 54)
*Teams have met in each of last four seasons
*This is just the second home game for UND in the series. (Drake 76, UND 51-- 12/4/10)

ON TAP

UND hosts Drake in the second of a four-game homestand. This home stretch will take UND until Dec. 20 and the opening of the Big Sky Conference slate against Southern Utah. North Dakota played four of its first five games on the road to begin the 2012-13 season.

LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Emily Evers etched new career highs with 17 points and 15 rebounds as host North Dakota ran away from Air Force 76-42 Tuesday night at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. Madi Buck  added 13 points and Nicole Smart chipped-in 11 in the win for UND.

LOOKING AHEAD
North Dakota continues its four-game homestand next Saturday when it welcomes Jamestown to the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.  The following Thursday, UND opens Big Sky Conference play when Southern Utah comes calling on Dec. 20.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS (3-4)
Drake is fresh off a Thursday night win at North Dakota State for a modest two-game winning streak. The Bulldogs got 14 points and nine rebounds from Morgan Reid in the win over the Bison. For the season, Reid is their top rebounder at 8.6 per contest while Kyndal Clark leads the squad in scoring at 13.1 per night.

ALMA MATER MATTERS
UND assistant coach Linda Sayavongchanh will be facing her former employer and alma mater Drake in Saturday’s contest. Coach Sy was on the Bulldog bench the past three seasons and was a standout player from 2002-06. She was a three-time All-Missouri Valley Conference selection and set the Drake single-season record with 105 steals.

JOLLY OL’ SAINT NIC-OLE
Through the first four games of the season, senior Nicole Smart had a combined four three-point makes. In her last two games, Smart has gotten hot, going 6-of-11 from distance, including a 3-for-4 effort in the first half of Tuesday’s blowout win vs. Air Force.  She is eight triples shy of 100 for her career.

CHRISTMAS EVE-RS
Sophomore Emily Evers was in a giving mood Tuesday, wrapping-up career bests in both points (17) and rebounds (15) in the win over Air Force. She also added two assists, two blocks and a steal, doing all of that in just 14 minutes of work in her second career start.

UNDER THE MILLS-ELTOE
Sophomore Cy'erra Mills helped the Air Force offense pucker-up Tuesday, as she did her best Grinch impression by garnering six steals and adding seven points in the win. Both of those totals were career highs for the quick guard who now leads the team in thefts with a dozen on the season.

ROUGH ROAD
According to RPI and Strength of Schedule guru Jeff Sagarin, UND’s 2012-13 schedule through four games ranked 10th in all of NCAA Division I.  All four opponents were ranked in the top 102 in RPI.

A BIT ABOUT LAST SEASON (21-11)
The University of North Dakota women’s basketball team picked up the Great West Conference regular-season and postseason tournament titles, winning nine straight games to finish 9-1 in league play ... Center Allyssa Wall (North Sioux City, S.D.) was named to the GWC All-Tournament team and was voted the tournament’s most valuable player ... Also named to the all-tournament team was center Emily Evers (Grand Forks, N.D.), who averaged a team-high 13.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, and shot 74.4 percent from the field ... UND advanced to its first-ever NCAA Division I postseason play, heading to Seattle University for the first round of the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI).

RECORD REWIND
The University of North Dakota women’s basketball program holds an 806-313 (.720) record all-time since the first game was played in 1974.

OPEN SEASON
The season-opening loss to Harvard pushed UND’s record in season openers to 29-8 all-time. North Dakota is now 19-5 in season openers at home, including losses each of the past two seasons.

NO CUPCAKES
The home opener is the start of a very challenging part of UND’s schedule. Each of the first four opponents qualified for a postseason tournament a season ago. In addition, only one of those games is at home for UND (vs. Harvard). Iowa State went to the NCAA Tournament while Harvard, Duquesne and South Florida all competed in the WNIT.

PROTECT AND SERVE
All-time, North Dakota is 438-88 (.833) when it comes to defending its own court. The team played at the  UND Fieldhouse/Hyslop Sports Center before moving into its current home at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in 2004-05.

YOU BETTY, YOU BETTY, YOU BET!
North Dakota is 104-19 (.846) all-time at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center, which opened prior to the 2004-05 season.

UND FIFTH, SIXTH IN BIG SKY POLLS
UND was picked to finish fifth by the media and sixth by the coaches in the 2012-13 Big Sky Conference preseason polls. After three seasons in the Great West Conference following its move to NCAA Division I, UND enters its first season in the league.

The top four spots were identical in both polls with Idaho State, the defending Big Sky regular season and tournament champion, grabbing the top position. Northern Colorado was the runner-up with Montana and Montana State slotted third and fourth, respectively, in both polls.

2012-13 SCHEDULE
This year’s slate includes 16 total home games (two exhibitions),10 games against postseason teams (NCAA- Idaho State (2), Iowa State;  WNIT- No. Colorado (2), Drake, Duquesne, Harvard, South Florida, Utah), a re-kindling of the North Dakota State rivalry and the inaugural season of the Big Sky Conference.
