BOZEMAN, Mont. -- North Dakota junior Jordan Fisk made a little bit of school history today, becoming the first UND student-athlete to compete at the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship.

The 2013 championship, UND's first as a Big Sky member, kicked off today with the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon.

Fisk opened the day in 10th place with 2,243 points through the first four events of the heptathlon, with the remaining three scheduled for tomorrow.

Fisk, a native of Langdon, N.D., opened the day with the 55-meter dash, placing seventh with a time of 6.79 seconds. That was followed by the long jump, where Fisk cleared 5.60 meters (18 feet, 4 ½ inches).

In the shot put, Fisk recorded a mark of 9.80 meters (32 feet, 2 inches). He finished the day with a leap of 1.63 meters (5 feet, 4 ½ inches) in the high jump.

Montana's Austin Emry is in first place with 3,246 points.

Day two of the 2013 Big Sky Conference Indoor Championship gets underway Friday morning.
