IIHF Women's World Championships set to begin

OTTAWA --- The 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship drops the puck today as eight teams and six current or former UND student-athletes will be key contributors in for their respective countries in its bid for gold.

UND’s Jocelyne Lamoureux and Monique Lamoureux will help lead the United States, Michelle Karvinen will help provide an offensive spark for Finland, Johanna Fallman will skate for Sweden and Tanja Eisenschmid and Susanne Fellner will pair up on the blue line for Germany.

Also, UND’s associate head coach Peter Elander is serving as a mentor for Germany and UND’s video coordinator Max Markowitz is serving the same role for Finland.

Organizers of this year’s event are expecting to obliterate all attendance records expecting to have over 200,000 attendees by the time the event is over. Click here for a preview of the tournament.

The medal round is set to begin on April 6 with the quarterfinals and conclude with gold and bronze medal games on April 9.

North Dakota forwards Andrea Dalen (Norway), Josefine Jakobsen (Denmark) and goaltender Jorid Dagfinrud will also be competing in the IIHF Women’s World Championship Division I Tournament held in Norway from April 7-13.
