WALNUT, Calif. – While North Dakota split squads competed in three different meets today in the Golden State, it was senior distance runner Lindsay Anderson who shone the brightest.

Running at the 55th annual Mt. SAC Relays, Anderson broke a 20-year old school record in the 5K race tonight, clocking a time of 16 minutes, 35.91 seconds. It was also a Big Sky Conference automatic qualifying time for the Leeds, N.D., native, who eclipsed the previous record of 16:50.54 set by Steph Bruening at Southwest Missouri State in 1993.

Freshman Stephanie Clarke also competed at the Mt. SAC Relays. The native of Edmonton, Alberta, ran a time of 57.70 seconds in the 400-meters.

Weller’s Big Sky auto qualifier leads Azusa group

AZUSA, Calif. – Junior Savana Weller provided UND’s second Big Sky automatic qualifier of the day, this one coming at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University.

Weller, a native of Sauk Centre, Minn., ran the 800-meters in a personal-record time of 2 minutes, 13.46 seconds, to qualify for the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championship. Weller’s time was also good for a runner-up finish in her section.

Three more runners also qualified personal records today for UND, including junior Brittany Ungs (Mantorville, Minn.), who completed the 1,500-meters in a time of 4:50.38. She finished fourth in her section.

Additionally, senior Kirsten Haas (Belgrade, Mont.) and junior Anne Van Heel (Forest Lake, Minn.) each recorded PR times and won their respective sections in the 400-meter hurdles. Haas clocked a time of 1:01.41, while Van Heel crossed the line in 1:03.98.

UND also had a pair of competitors run the 200-meters, with Ashley Fedie (So., Chanhassen, Minn.) finishing in 27.59 seconds, and Megan Gray (Sr., St. Cloud, Minn.) posting a time of 27.69 seconds.

UND also had several throwers compete in the hammer throw at the Long Beach Invitational on Friday, but results were not yet available.

The team returns to action Saturday with a full day of events at the Long Beach Invitational at Cerritos College.
