SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Freshman Molly Griep enjoyed a monster performance in the discus today at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational.

Griep shattered her personal record by nearly 10 feet, in the process qualifying for the USA National Junior Championship with a mark of 159 feet, 4 inches (48.56 meters). It also landed her the second-best discus mark in the Big Sky Conference this season, and placed her second in the event.

A native of Whitewater, Wis., Griep is UND's third freshman thrower this season to have qualified for the USA Junior National Championship, joining Ke-Ke Burks (hammer) and Jayd Eggert (javelin).

Griep also competed in the hammer throw, registering a mark of 154 feet, 7 inches (47.12 meters).

Burks recorded a throw of 149 feet, 3 inches (45.49 meters) in the same event.

The meet concludes on Saturday with the shot put.
