PORTLAND, Ore. – University of North Dakota freshman thrower Molly Griep earned all-conference honors in the discus this afternoon on the final day of the 2013 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championship.

Griep, a Whitewater, Wis., native, was the runner-up in the discus with a throw of 45.16 meters (148’2”), finishing behind only Northern Arizona’s Julia Viberg.

Sacramento State won its sixth consecutive Big Sky women’s outdoor championship, amassing 155.5 points. Host Portland State was the runner-up with 110 points. North Dakota, in its first year as a Big Sky member, placed 11th.

In addition to Griep, three other competitors also scored for North Dakota.

Sophomore Rochelle Robb (Bull Bay, Jamaica) placed fourth in the high jump, reaching a mark of 1.64 meters (5’4.5”).

A pair of runners cracked the top in the 400-meter hurdles. Senior Kirsten Haas (Belgrade, Mont.) was fifth with a time of 1 minute, 1.59 seconds, while junior Anne Van Heel (Forest Lake, Minn.) was eighth with a time of 1:07.36.

Also of note, freshman Ke-Ke Burks (Madison, Wis.) joined Griep in the discus finals, where she placed ninth with a throw of 42.47 meters (139’4”).

Notes: Weber State’s Amber Henry was named Women’s Most Valuable Athlete, while Portland State’s Joenisha Vinson and Montana’s Lindsey Hall were named Women’s Outstanding co-Performers.
