GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota senior Kirsten Haas has capped her distinguished collegiate career by being honored among the top scholastic student-athletes in Division I track and field.

Haas has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-American Women’s Track & Field / Cross Country Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Belgrade, Mont., native was named to the third team.

Haas is majoring in international studies and owns a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. She was named to both the 2013-13 Big Sky Conference Winter All-Academic Team and the UND Athletics Director’s Fall 2012 Honor Roll, and was a finalist for UND’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. Haas was also the recipient of UND’s Howard & Ann and Brian & Terrie Dahl Impact Scholarship.

On the track, Haas placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2013 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championship. She ran a personal-record time of 1 minute, 1.41 seconds, in the same event at the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational, and helped UND win the 4x400 relay at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington Seahawk Invitational.

Haas is UND’s 79th student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors and the third in 2012-13, joining women’s hockey seniors Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux. She is UND’s 15th honoree since transitioning to Division I in 2008-09.

UND’s women’s track & field program now boasts eight Academic All-America honors, including Haas, Lindsay Anderson (2012), Kristi Dahlheimer (2011), three-time honoree Steph Bruening (1994, 1993, 1992) and two-time selection Kari McIntire (1984, 1985).
