GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota women’s and men’s track and field programs owned grade point averages that ranked among the nation’s highest in 2012-13, while a pair of freshmen earned individual academic honors in an announcement made by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

UND’s women’s track and field team recorded a collective grade point average of 3.599 this past season, ranking it second among all Division I women’s track and field programs. Only Wofford College (3.61) boasted a higher GPA in the nation. The UND men ranked seventh nationally with a 3.347 GPA.

As a result of their academic achievement, both UND’s men’s and women’s programs were named 2013 Division All-Academic Track & Field Teams by the USTFCCCA.

Additionally, UND freshmen Jayd Eggert (Minot, N.D.) and D'Monte Farley (Cottage Grove, Minn.) were named to the USTFCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

Eggert earned USA Track and Field All-America honors as a freshman after placing fourth in the javelin and the U.S. Junior Track and Field Championships in June. Farley also nabbed USA Track and Field All-America honors after finishing eighth in the triple jump at the same meet.

Refer to the attached PDF documents for a complete list of 2013 USTFCCCA team and individual academic honorees.
