GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota sophomore forward Becca Kohler and incoming freshman defenseman Halli Krzyzaniak were among the 40 players invited by Hockey Canada today to attend Canada’s National Women’s Development Team selection camp. The camp is scheduled for Aug. 10-18 in Calgary, Alberta.

Hockey Canada will choose 13 players from the development camp to join the 27 senior team players who will centralize with Canada’s National Women’s Team in Calgary for training to prepare for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Kohler appeared in 38 games for UND as a freshman in 2012-13, registering four goals and eight assists as the team earned its second straight NCAA postseason appearance.

A 6-foot native of St. Thomas, Ontario, Kohler twice represented Canada at the Under-18 World Championship, winning gold in 2012 and silver in 2011 and tallying five points in each tournament. She also helped lead Canada’s Under-22 squad to a gold medal at the 2013 Meco Cup in Füssen, Germany.

Krzyzaniak was a member of Canada's gold-winning teams at both the 2013 and 2012 U18 World Championships. She was also named most valuable player and top defenseman at the 2012 National Women's Under-18 Championship, where she helped lead Team Manitoba to a silver medal.

Krzyzaniak, a native of Neepawa, Manitoba, will join UND for the upcoming 2013-14 season.

The 40 players attending Canada’s National Women’s Development Team selection camp will be split into two teams, which will participate in several practices and intrasquad games, as well as off-ice dryland training, fitness testing and high performance classroom sessions.

UND’s women’s hockey program had three players earn medals at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, including silver medalists Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux of the United States, and bronze medalist Michelle Karvinen of Finland.
