GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota Head Soccer Coach Matt Kellogg announced today that Courtney Beckwith, Amanda Dahl, Anna Jung and Noel Scherer have been named team captains for the 2013 season.

All four players are in their fourth year with the program. Dahl, Jung and Scherer are entering their senior seasons, while Beckwith returns as a junior after missing the entire 2013 campaign due to injury.

“I am very excited to see these four young women lead this team this season,” said Kellogg, who is in his first year at North Dakota. “They have emerged from the summer and preseason as just the right leaders for our team at this time. I know they will do a great job during this time of transition.”

Beckwith, a midfielder from Henderson, Nev., had appeared in 22 career games through her first two seasons at UND. This year she’ll be joined on the roster by her younger sister, freshman midfielder Ashlee Beckwith.

Dahl, a senior forward from Redmond, Wash., scored one goal in 16 games last season and was a second-team All-Great West Conference performer in 2011.

Jung, a senior midfielder from Sandy, Utah, leads all active UND players with 53 career games played. She played in all 16 games a year ago and registered one assist.

Scherer, a midfielder from Fargo, N.D., is UND’s top returning scorer after collecting a career-high two goals and five points in 2012.

Kellogg and his UND squad open the 2013 season this weekend at Purdue’s Boilermaker Challenge Cup Tournament. UND will face Xavier on Friday at 3 p.m. Central and Akron on Sunday at 10 a.m.
