VERMILLION, S.D.-- Host South Dakota rallied from dropping the first set to post a 3-1 win (21-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21) over rival North Dakota at the DakotaDome Monday night in nonconference action. The loss snapped UND's nine-match winning streak in the all-time series dating back to 2009.

"We ran into a good block tonight from USD," UND head coach Ashley Hardee said. "That, coupled with their serving numbers was too much to overcome."

North Dakota (4-7) came out of a slow start firing, rebounding from a 6-2 deficit to start the match. From there, UND went on a 13-5 run, hitting .455 in the first set.

Back-to-back service aces helped the Coyotes pull the set even at 20-all but UND was able to win, 25-21. The offense was balanced with three different players registering four kills, all without a single attack error as the visitors hit .167.

A quick 4-0 run with points by Lisa Parlich on each end of the stretch gave North Dakota a 10-7 advantage in set two. South Dakota (9-4)-- which has now beat five Big Sky Conference teams this season-- rallied to post seven of the next nine points to force a timeout.

A McKenzie Hart ace later made the score 19-19, but USD was able to secure the second set, 25-19.

South Dakota took the third set as well by that same margin, breaking a late tie to snatch the victory. It was 16-apiece after eight tie scores until the Coyotes pieced together a 9-3 stretch the finish the set for a two-sets-to-one edge.

In the decider, USD led throughout, using a 5-1 start to take control. North Dakota got it back within three several times, including breaking two match points to force a Coyote timeout at 24-21. Kelsey Biltoft finished the match with her 10th kill, giving USD three different players with double-digit kill totals (Kendall Krienbrink- 18, Sydney Dimke- 12).

North Dakota also had three with 10+ kills, paced by 15 from Parlich. Ronni Munkeby added 11 and Lexi Robinson had 10 for UND. Nikki Husfeldt contributed 43 assists on the night to move into fourth place on the UND career assist list.

UND begins Big Sky Conference play Friday and Saturday with road matches at Montana State and Montana, respectively.
