North Dakota-- winners of five of its last six matches-- opens its Big Sky Conference home schedule, hosting Weber State and Idaho State on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

LAST WEEK
UND opened league play on the road, besting Montana State, 3-1 on Friday before a 3-0 win over Montana on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Weber State is 4-12 overall and 0-2 in the Big Sky coming into this week’s action ... The Wildcats are last in the league in hitting (.143), but allow the second-lowest hitting percentage to its opponents (.183) ... McKay Tarbox is third in the Big Sky in digs (4.46/set) and Katie Harvey ranks ninth in blocks (1.05/set) ... UND is 2-0 all-time against WSU, both wins coming last season.

LAST SEASON VS. WEBER STATE
North Dakota won both matches last season, taking five-set wins on both occasions. UND had to rally from 2-1 deficits in both instances. Ronni Munkeby averaged 16.5 kills per match in the two wins.

SCOUTING THE BENGALS
Idaho State enters the week 7-6 with a 1-1 mark in the league ... Sophomore Makenzie Filer currently sports the conference’s top hitting percentage (.448) ... Sophomore Tressa Lyman sets the pace in the league in kills (3.97/set) ... Senior Lori Mendenhall-Lee averages 10.51 assists per set, second-best in the Big Sky ... ISU’s two wins last year are the lone meetings between the schools all-time.

LAST SEASON VS. IDAHO STATE
ISU won both meetings, a 3-1 win in Pocatello, Idaho on Sep. 22 and a 3-0 victory at the Betty on Oct. 25. ISU held UND to hitting percentages of .162 and .154 in those matches, respectively.

ON THE HORIZON

North Dakota will battle in-state rival North Dakota State, Mon., Sep. 30, aiming for its third-straight win in the series. UND won its first match in Fargo since the 1976 season last year with a 3-0 sweep. Coming into this week’s action, NDSU is 0-12 and has won just two sets all season.

RECORD REWIND
The University of North Dakota volleyball program holds a 599-713-3 (.457) record all-time since the first game was played on Sept. 22, 1976. Under head coach Ashley Hardee, UND is 94-40 (.701).

SIGHTS ON 600
North Dakota comes into the week with 599 wins in the school’s history. Of those wins, 119 have come in its NCAA Division I era (since 2008).

SENIOR SPOTLIGHTED
Senior Ronni Munkeby tallied a pair of 13-kill matches to help North Dakota to a perfect 2-0 road week at Montana State and Montana. The Lisbon, N.D. native also added seven total blocks and a service ace on the week. She was honored as the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week for her efforts.

Munkeby’s 26 kills came on just 48 attempts with eight errors for a .375 hitting percentage, part of UND’s league-leading .271 clip as a team. Munkeby sets the pace in the Big Sky with her 1.24 blocks per set average.

UND FOURTH IN PRESEASON BIG SKY POLL
The University of North Dakota volleyball team was picked to finish fourth in the 2013 Big Sky Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.  Reigning regular-season champion Portland State was the top vote-getter with seven first-place votes (coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams). Idaho State (2 first-place votes) was second with Big Sky Tournament champion Northern Colorado third. Northern Arizona finished fifth in the voting and had the other two first-place nods.

RIGHT ON PAR-LICH
Senior Lisa Parlich was named to the UND Classic All-Tournament Team. It marks the second straight season for that honor after she was the MVP of the 2012 tourney.

YOU BETTY RECOGNIZE
North Dakota is 68-36 all-time at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center, which opened prior to the 2004 season.  Since 2008, UND is a staggering 46-10 (.821) including a school-record 13 wins in 2011.

HITTING THE BOOKS
The UND volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Team Academic Award with a cumulative 3.461 grade point average last season. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Midco Sports Network will televise three UND volleyball matches as part of its broadcast deal that includes football, men’s hockey, women’s hockey, men’s basketball and women’s basketball. The first televised volleyball match is the highly-anticipated in-state battle with North Dakota State on Sep. 30. An Oct. 24 Big Sky match against Montana is the second on the docket and the Nov. 21 match against Northern Arizona rounds out the TV schedule. All three matches will air in high definition.
