WHAT'S ON DECK
The University of North Dakota swimming and diving season gets underway officially on Saturday with a home meet against South Dakota State and St. Cloud State (men only) at the Hyslop Center Pool.

UPCOMING
North Dakota head to Vermillion, S.D. to face the Coyotes Friday, Oct. 18. Meet is set for a 6:00 p.m start.

DIVING HEADSTART
Home meets at Hyslop this season will feature diving events starting an hour before the posted meet start times. The new competition blocks will be utilized on the east end of the pool by the diving boards. Saturday's diving start will be at noon.

HOMECOMING HAPPENINGS
Saturday's swim meet is one of five varsity sporting events happening on campus on Saturday with six in action this weekend. Volleyball, football, men's hockey and women's hockey all have home games on Saturday with soccer playing Friday and Sunday.

NEW COACH READY TO LEAD UND
First-year head coach Chris Maiello officially begins his competition season Saturday as UND's new head man. Maiello comes to UND after spending the last five seasons as the assistant men’s swimming coach and recruiting coordinator at the United States Naval Academy. His list of accomplishments include helping lead the Midshipmen to a 61-11 record with 11 individual and seven relay conference champions. In his tenure at Navy, Maiello mentored 29 swimmers with all-time top ten performances at the academy with five of his athletes swimming at the 2012 Olympics Trials meet. He was also the head swimming coach for the Navy USA swimming team and the U.S. National Military team, where he's trained and coached athletes at the 2010 World Military Swimming Championships in Warendorf, Germany and the 2011 World Military Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

WELCOME WAC
The UND men will compete in the Western Athletic Conference this season after the league reinstated men's swimming for the 2013-14 season. North Dakota is already a women’s swimming and diving affiliate member and will also be an affiliate member in baseball in 2013-14.

CAPTAIN QUARTET
Camille Merwin and Morgan Lynch are the women's captains while Rick Eberle and Dan Jacobson will lead the men's group.

Lynch is the UND record holder in three different events (500, 1000 and 1650 free), setting all three at the 2012 WAC Championships. Merwin ranks fourth all-time at UND in the 100 breaststroke, a mark she set at the Conference USA meet in 2011. Her three best efforts last season all came at the WAC meet (100 breast, 100 fly, 200 IM).

Eberle became the first UND male diver to qualify for the NCAA Division I Zone diving meet last season. He is the school record holder in every diving event. Jacobson's name appears in the UND top 10 in four different events (50 back, 100 back, 200 back, 50 fly).
