PHILADELPHIA – Sports Network officials named North Dakota quarterback Ryan Bartels their co-National Freshman of the Week on Monday. Bartels shared the honor with Youngstown State running back Martin Ruiz.

Bartels came off the bench and threw for a UND freshman record 367 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-27 loss to No. 14 Northern Arizona on Saturday. All four of his touchdown passes went to sophomore Kenny Golladay, who set the UND single-game record with 16 receptions. Bartels also completed a school freshman record 39 passes on 59 attempts in the contest.

For Bartels, it was his first action since the Montana State game on Sept. 28. His completion and touchdowns totals in just over three quarters of work at the Walkup Skydome exceeded his season totals from two starts and two relief appearances in UND’s first four games (29-for-49, two touchdowns).

Golladay was named the College Football Performance Awards National Wide Receiver of the Week on Sunday evening. He finished the contest with 123 yards receiving and tied the school record with those four touchdown receptions. The 100-yard receiving game was his fourth of the season.

Ruiz rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns as the ninth-ranked Penguins rallied to beat South Dakota in Vermillion. Ruiz scored the game-winning touchdown with 14 seconds to play on a 3-yard run.

North Dakota will wrap up its seven-game home schedule on Saturday for a Senior Day tilt against Northern Colorado. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. CT.
