GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota volleyball team earned its 19th win of the season, downing Sacramento State, 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-19), Saturday night at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

After suffering just its second Big Sky Conference loss of the season last night, UND (19-9, 14-2 Big Sky) came out much stronger on offense as three players reached double figures in kills. As a whole, UND hit .324 on the night to give Sacramento State its fourth defeat in as many meetings in the all-time series.

“I thought we were in a much better rhythm offensively tonight,” head coach Ashley Hardee said. “Nikki Husfeldt did a great job getting us into our offense, and it was a much better effort than last night against Northern Colorado.”

Husfeldt recorded 40 assists and three service aces to help quarterback to UND offense.

North Dakota had a tremendous night from the trio of Lisa Parlich, Ronni Munkeby and Anna Pioske. Both Parlich and Munkeby led UND with 12 kills in the match, while Pioske had 11. Additionally, Munkeby hit .526 on the night with Parlich hitting .409.

On defense, North Dakota limited Sac State  (13-13, 8-7 Big Sky) to just a single four-point run, which came early in the first set. After that the first set, the Hornets were unable to string together more than three points in a row. UND libero Lauren Clarke led the team with 18 digs.

UND had two five-point runs, one in the second and third sets, en route to the three-set sweep.

Coming out of intermission, Sac State took an early 3-1 lead, but UND traded points with the Hornets before taking a 9-5 lead, a lead that UND wouldn’t relinquish.

North Dakota turns its attention to its final road trip of the regular season, traveling to Portland State and Eastern Washington, Nov. 14 & 16, respectively.
