FARGO, N.D. --  Sophomore thrower Ke-Ke Burks opened the indoor track and field season in memorable fashion, breaking North Dakota's school record in the weight throw today at the Dakota Duals

Burks recorded a throw of 55 feet, 9 inches (16.99 meters), shattering the mark she had previously set last year.

Another standout, sprinter Stephanie Clarke, picked up right where she left off from last year's record-setting freshman campaign.

Clarke won the 400-meters with a time of 57.62 seconds to pick up UND's lone event title on the day. UND dropped duals to South Dakota State and host North Dakota State.

Clarke also teamed with Caitlyn Carlson, Alyssa Espinoza and Savana Weller for a third-place finish in the 4x400 relay, where UND’s quartet clocked a time of 3 minutes, 57.37 seconds.

UND received a pair of runner-up finishes from Weller in the 600-meters (1 minute, 35.90 seconds) and Chantel Urban in the shot put (13.53m/44-04.75) . Burks also finished second with her school-record weight throw.

Rochelle Robb was third in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 3 inches (1.60 meters).

"We had a really good meet. We knocked the rust off the team and now we know where we are," said UND head coach Kevin Galbraith. "Most of the team is ahead of where we were at this time last year, so that's very encouraging."

UND will now take the rest of 2013 off before resuming action Jan. 17-18 at the National Pole Vault Summit and the University of Minnesota’s Northwest Open.
