UND participating in "Play 4Kay" Saturday

GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- Saturday's women's basketball game vs. Idaho State will be a dedication to raise awareness and funding for women’s cancer research through the "Play 4Kay" initiative. Since its inception in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has raised more than $3.8 million to support women’s cancer research.

North Dakota hosts Idaho State at 2:00 p.m. at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center and UND will be wearing pink warmups to honor those who have battled cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the effort to raise awareness.

·The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded on December 3, 2007, from the vision of the organization’s namesake and former NC State head women’s basketball coach, Kay Yow, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away on January 24, 2009.

·Coach Yow felt as if coaches not only shared a profession but a community. It is with this communal mentality that Coach Yow, despite her humility, served as a platform to rally a nation of coaches to be part of one team against one opponent – cancer.

·The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the WBCA and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to finding an answer in the fight against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research and related programs, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. 

·The Kay Yow Cancer Fund has allocated $3.8 million to various research projects and related programs, with additional future grants currently under consideration. 

·The WBCA and The V Foundation have been invaluable partners to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in its first six years and the Fund looks forward to its continued collaboration with both organizations.
