GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team knocked off Eastern Washington, 4-3, on Monday afternoon at Choice Health and Fitness, extending its winning streak to five.

The competition between the two sides was close, and the dual came down to the final match of the day, the No. 3 singles between UND's Lacey Sprinkel and EWU's Dani Young. After trading sets, Sprinkel pulled out the victory in the third set (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) to give UND the 4-3 team victory.

Eastern Washington started the day off by winning the doubles point, taking the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches, 8-6, 8-3, respectively.

North Dakota rebounded to take a 2-1 lead in the team score after Mikaela Bennett shutout her opponent in the No. 6 singles match and Faith Lee posted a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 5 singles match.

UND then dropped the No. 4 and No. 1 singles matches giving EWU back a 3-2 lead. Stephanie Biehn lost at No. 4 singles to EWU's Katrina Domingo, 6-4, 6-2, and Stephanie Petsis lost at No. 1 singles to Moira Hedberg, 6-2, 7-5.

Down by a point with only the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches left, North Dakota went on to take the final two matches to secure its fifth win in a row.

Callie Ronkowski brushed off Erin Blessing in the No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Sprinkel then went three sets with Young at No. 3 singles to give UND the win.

North Dakota returns to the court on Sunday, March 9, hosting Portland State at 9 a.m.
