GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- North Dakota Senior shortstop Caralyn Chewning was named All-Big Sky Second Team, the conference announced on Wednesday. First baseman D Jantzer, Second basemen Taylor Hansen, outfielder Emily Bell, and utility player Courtney Gonzales were all earned honorable mention honors.

With a .352 batting average this season, Chewning had the ninth-best average among all batters in the Big Sky. In conference only games, Chewning batted .463, the second-best mark in the league. She also led the Big Sky with a .569 on-base percentage in league play. Chewning ended her career as the new UND record holder for career doubles with 43.

Fellow senior D Jantzer led the team this season with four home runs, 18 runs scored, and 52 total bases. She was also fourth on the team with a .299 batting average. Jantzer ended her UND career ninth in both career home runs with 12 and career RBI with 69.

Senior Courtney Gonzales appeared in 128 games, recording 75 hits and scoring 23 runs. This season she batted a career-high .267 average.

Sophomore Emily Bell was one of three UND batters to hit above .300 on the season, recording 31 hits including one home run. She held a .977 fielding percentage splitting time between left field and first base.

Fellow sophomore Taylor Hansen hit three home runs and recorded 21 hits in 83 at-bats this season. Playing at second base, she recorded a total of 21 putouts and 14 assists, and helped turn two double plays.

Chewning's accolade is the first All-Big Sky First or Second Team selection in program history. Last season, Chewning, Jantzer, Amanda Johnson and Cami Bennett were named honorable mention by the Big Sky.
