GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- After completing her four-year career, former UND defender Amanda Dahl will serve as an assistant coach for the North Dakota women's soccer program in 2014, head coach Matt Kellogg announced on Wednesday.

A two-time Big Sky All-Academic Team member and an All-Great West Conference Second Team honoree, Dahl played in a total of 68 games in her career. Dahl also served as a captain for her senior season, during coach Kellogg's first year as head coach.

"We are very happy to have Amanda on staff," Kellogg said. "She was a great leader in the team in our first year and really helped with the transition. I'm excited because I think she can help us continue what we started last year and make the program a championship contender."

Dahl graduated with her bachelor's in air traffic control from UND in May. She plans on coaching while waiting to get into the Federal Aviation Administration Academy to become an air traffic controller.

"It's definitely a changeup, that I was not expecting, but I've been welcoming the challenge," Dahl said. "I'm excited and I think it's going to be a lot of fun to be back around all the girls again. It's exciting for the team to have a new start with the coaching start and to be a part of it, and it will be great to see the things that the team will accomplish this year."
