GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota thrower Jayd Eggert and both UND’s men’s and women’s track and field teams have been recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for academic excellence during the 2013-14 season.

Eggert was one of 727 female student-athletes nationwide to earn USTFCCA All-Academic individual accolades. The Minot, N.D., native owns a 3.54 grade-point average as a pre-physical therapy major.

As a sophomore in 2013-14, Eggert placed seventh in the javelin at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championship and qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Preliminary Championships. She also landed in UND’s all-time top 10 in the javelin, hammer and weight throws.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

  • For the indoor season, must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.

  • For the outdoor season, must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

Eggert and her teammates also earned All-Academic Team honors from the USTFCCA, tying for 16th nationally with a 3.42 team grade-point average. It is the third straight year and 20th time in program history that UND’s women’s track program has earned such honors.

UND’s men’s program was also named a USTFCCA All-Academic Team after tying for 19th in the country with a 3.20 grade-point average. It is also the third straight honor for the men’s team and the 15th time in program history.

Earlier this year, both UND’s men’s and women’s cross country teams earned USTFCCA All-Academic Team honors.
