#DayByDay Fall Camp Notebook: Media Day
This and That
Tuesday's fourth practice of fall camp was the final one in preparation for a full-padded practice, which will take place on Wednesday morning from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Head coach Bubba Schweigert expects the energy level to rise with the move to full pads, but does not want that uptick in energy to take away from his team's retention of the plays either. "Sometimes the challenge you have when you go to full pads is the energy level changes, but can you maintain your focus on technique and those things because we still have to keep working our technique and applying it to game situations," Schweigert said.

Skelly Highlights
Tuesday's skelly situation was of the third-and-long variety with the offense moving in from the 22-yard line for several plays before running the same situation from the 10-yard line.

The defense opened the drill with back-to-back interceptions as linebackers Brian Labat and Kyle Norberg were both in the right spots to pick off passes. Before moving to the 10-yard line, sophomore Ryan Bartels did find freshman wideout Luke Stanley on a nicely thrown seam route for a touchdown.

From the 10-yard line, the defense registered three pass break-ups and also tagged up on a receiver short of the yard to gain three times on 10 plays. Sophomore Jake Hanson found Zac Adler for the lone touchdown, but Kyle Ruhe and Luke Mathewson also gained enough yardage on receptions to net first downs without scoring.

Always Being Evaluated
One thing Coach Schweigert has stressed throughout fall camp is that as a player, you are always being evaluated. This is not only in drills, skelly situations or team work, but are you listening when you're on the sidelines, are you engaged if you're nicked up and out of a drill. It is no secret that Schweigert wants to litter his team with tough players and there are lots of drills and individual sessions during these first handful of practices that have been designed to evaluate a player's toughness.

More Nuggets

  • Sophomore Charles Flowers - a JUCO transfer from Citrus College - had an interception during team drills midway through the practice.
  • Junior wide receiver Miguel Cerriteno practiced for the first time this fall after getting some paperwork straightened out. Cerriteno wears No. 11 and the coaching staff is looking forward to seeing what the 6-foot-2 wideout from Las Vegas, Nev., can add to Coach Danny Freund's position unit.
Mollberg on Dizzo's Den
Sophomore quarterback Joe Mollberg will be a guest of Dom Izzo's on tonight's edition of "Dizzo's Den" on 970 AM in Fargo. The show airs from 6:30-7 p.m.

Post-Practice Thoughts from Head Coach Bubba Schweigert
"I think our want-to up front is there. I've noticed a different in that, especially offensively. I am really happy with our guys up front and you can see them taking to heart that we want to be a physical football team and working hard at it. Now are we making mistakes? Yes, we are, but I just see us going hard and putting forth a good effort.

"Defensively, we have to run to the ball better. Today we challenged our guys, tried to get them a little tired to see if they still wanted to run to the ball. Anybody can run to the ball when you are fresh, but it's when you're tired, who is going to have that toughness to run to the football. On both sides of we want to develop some toughness and it has to be real toughness. It's not about yelling, or whooping and hollering, it's about running to the ball and putting forth a good effort in all your reps and drills, whether it's skelly or inside drills. We're evaluating their hearts and we're going to play the guys with the heart and great passion to play this game."
