Big Sky unveils preseason polls as opener nears

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Northern Arizona University was named the preseason favorite by a vote of coaches in both the men’s and women’s 2014 Big Sky Conference Cross Country Preseason Polls released on Tuesday.

Northern Arizona’s men’s team, the seven-time defending conference champion, received 10 of 12 first-place votes to top the rankings. Runner-up Southern Utah received the two remaining first-place votes.

On the women’s side, NAU received nine first-place votes, followed by three-time defending champion Weber State (two votes) and Eastern Washington (one vote).

UND, entering its third year as a Big Sky member, was picked to finish 10th on the women’s side and 11th on the men’s side.

UND, under 30th-year head coach Dick Clay, will open the 2014 campaign on Friday, Aug. 29, in Fargo at North Dakota State’s Bison Open.
