GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- University of North Dakota head coach Bubba Schweigert announced on Monday that Torrey Hunt has signed a grant-in-aid to join the football program and will be on campus this semester to begin winter conditioning and participate in spring practices.

Hunt spent the fall semester at Navy Prep Academy after signing with the Midshipmen following his senior year of high school in 2014. Schweigert anticipates Hunt playing on the defensive side of the ball at UND.

"Torrey is a very athletic football player that showed great ball skills during his prep career,” Schweigert said. “We think those will translate well to the defensive side of the ball and add a lot to our secondary. We think he can develop into a top-notch defender in the Big Sky Conference.”

At Navy Prep Academy, the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder played wide receiver and finished with 15 catches for 405 receiving yards. He also saw time as a return specialist and finished with 560 all-purpose yards.

As a senior at Bob Jones High School in Madison, Ala., Hunt earned honorable mention Class 7A All-State honors after finishing with 43 catches for 746 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had two kickoff returns for touchdowns.
