MESA, Ariz.-- A pair of University of North Dakota baseball players earned accolades as the Western Athletic Conference announced its all-league teams prior to the postseason tournament at Hohokam Park Tuesday evening. Miles Lewis was lauded as the league's Freshman of the Year while joining teammate Zach Muckenhirn on the All-WAC Second Team.

Both players recently completed standout campaigns for UND. Lewis burst onto the scene by leading North Dakota in a host of statistical categories. He hit .360, fifth-highest in the conference heading into the league tournament. The Hudson, Wis., native paced the Fighting Hawks with 63 hits, three homers, .463 slugging percentage and 20 steals in his phenomenal rookie campaign. Lewis recorded a team-high 20 multi-hit games, including a pair of four-hit contests.

Muckenhirn started his junior season off with a bang, shutting out then-12th-ranked Southern California with a three-hit gem, piling up nine strikeouts in the 1-0 victory. He earned national player of the week honors for that performance. The Delano, Minn., product would punchout a dozen Alabama batters a week later, going eight innings without allowing an earned run. He fanned a career-high 14 in just 7.1 innings at Sacramento State and would record at least eight strikeouts in eight of his 13 starts, leading the WAC in Ks with 99 against just 14 walks. His career strikeout total stands at 200, fourth-most in school history.
