GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota sophomore defenseman Christian Wolanin has been named National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Defenseman of the Week after a 4-point series in UND’s road sweep at Omaha.

Wolanin had two goals and two assists in the weekend, including a 2-goal, 3-assist performance in Saturday’s 7-3 win that established personal bests in both categories. The Detroit, Mich., native was also a plus-3 in the series and played a key role in a UND special teams effort that went 6 for 12 on the power play and 8-for-9 on the penalty kill.

It was the first career weekly NCHC honor for Wolanin, a fourth-round draft pick (107th overall) of the Ottawa Senators in 2015. In 19 games this season, Wolanin has two goals and 10 assists. His 12 points are tied for sixth on the team in scoring and second among defensemen.

Denver’s Troy Terry and Henrik Borgstrom were named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, while Colorado College freshman Alex Leclerc was the NCHC Goaltender of the Week.

Wolanin and the seventh-ranked Fighting Hawks host Miami University on Friday and Saturday at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
