GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota sophomore pole vaulter Kyley Foster has been named the Big Sky Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the conference office, for her record-breaking performance in California.

Competing at Long Beach State’s Pacific Coast Intercollegiate last Thursday, Foster broke her own school record in the pole vault with a leap of 13 feet, 3 ¾ inches (4.06) meters to become the first Big Sky athlete to clear 13 feet this season. It was the 10th-best jump in Big Sky Conference history and topped her own previous school record (12-06.25) by more than half a foot.

Foster, a native of Detroit Lakes, Minn., currently ranks first in the Big Sky and 26th in the west region after Thursday’s performance.

Weber State’s Jamie Stokes was named the Big Sky Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Utah’s Kasey Knevelbaard (track) and Montana State’s Kyle Douglass (field) were honored on the men’s side.

Foster and her North Dakota teammates return to action this weekend at North Dakota State’s Lyle Hokanson Classic (April 22) and UC-San Diego’s Triton Invitational (April 22-23).
