The North Dakota women’s tennis team qualified for its first ever Big Sky tournament, claiming the No. 6 seed after finishing the season with a 4-7 mark in conference play. The tournament will be held in Phoenix, April 27-29, at the Phoenix Tennis Center.

The Fighting Hawks will take on the No. 3 seed Montana State in the first quarterfinal match on Thursday. With a win against the Bobcats, North Dakota would advance to play the No. 1 seed Northern Arizona on Friday in the semifinals. The championship match will be held on Saturday.

North Dakota and Montana State played each other back on April 7 in Grand Forks, N.D. The Bobcats took the dual, 6-1, but UND put up close fights in three of the singles matches that ended up going for Montana State.

Montana State finished the season with a 9-2 record in Big Sky play and a 13-5 overall record. MSU’s only conference losses were to regular-season champion Northern Arizona and to the No. 2 seed Idaho.
