Danielle Mendez joined the North Dakota soccer staff as an assistant coach in July 2017 after a highly decorated collegiate playing career.

Mendez, who works primarily with North Dakota’s goalkeepers, was reunited with her former collegiate head coach and current UND assistant Chris Citowicki.

Mendez was a four-year starting goalkeeper for Citowicki from 2012-15 at St. Catherine University, a Division III institution in Minneapolis. She graduated as the program’s career leader in goals against average (1.45) and shutouts (19) and set single-season records for goals against average (0.86) and fewest goals allowed (16). Mendez finished her career with 274 saves, second-most in school history.

Mendez also boasts several years of club and camp coaching experience.

The addition of Danielle completes our staff and I am privileged to now have two exceptional coaches working with this program,” said UND head coach Chris Logan at the time of Mendez's hiring. “Danielle is a very talented goalkeeper coach, possesses great regional recruiting connections, and has a huge passion for the game. The team shares my excitement in welcoming Danielle to North Dakota soccer.”

A native of Bloomington, Minn., Mendez worked with the Minnesota Thunder Academy in each of the last two seasons, serving as the U17 head coach in 2017 and the U14 assistant coach in 2016. Prior to that, she spent two years as a head coach and summer camp coach with the Burnsville Fire Soccer Club. She also volunteered as a goalkeeper coach at St. Catherine in 2016 following her graduation.

Mendez graduated from St. Catherine in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise sports science and a minor in psychology. She continued her playing career after graduation as a member of the Minnesota Twin Stars FC, a semi-professional women’s team, in 2016 and 2017.
