GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Quinton Hooker has found a new basketball home. The former Fighting Hawks' standout signed a professional contract Wednesday to play for GTK Gliwice in the Polish National Basketball League.

"As with any major decision, this was a tough process," Hooker said. "As I got closer to making the final decision, the biggest factor for me was this was a team that was interested in me from the beginning. They were in constant contact with me and being able to have multiple conversations with the head coach really provided me with a comfort level I needed to make this jump to European basketball.

"This will be a team that I'll be able to make an immediate impact on and I'm looking forward to joining my new teammates and making a run at our league championship."

He capped his UND career this past season after leading the Fighting Hawks to their first Big Sky regular season and tournament titles. The latter provided an automatic berth to the program's first NCAA Division I Tournament appearance.

Hooker didn't disappoint in the team's first-round matchup with Arizona, scoring 25 points against the second-seeded Wildcats. He closed his career with 1,787 career points to rank sixth on the program's all-time scoring chart and is the only player in the history of the program to score more than 1,500 points, secure 400-plus rebounds and dish 400-plus assists. His 195 career steals are third all-time at UND.

"I received a lot of great guidance from my family, the UND coaching staff and my agent Michael Siegel throughout this process and I want to thank them and the Fighting Hawks fans for always supporting me," Hooker added. "I'm excited to start this next chapter of my basketball journey."

Hooker is currently playing for Team Jones in the Twin Cities Pro-Am and anticipates departing for his new Polish home in mid-August.
