Head coach Tim Swanson and the Fighting Hawks will open the 2017-18 season this Friday with the opening two rounds of the UNO Invitational. This will be the first of eight tournaments for UND.

Five Things To Know For 2017-18
1.  Senior captain Jack McClintock owns the sescond-best, single-round score in UND's Division I era after firing a 67 (-5) at the 2016 Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational. The Fighting Hawks will open the spring portion of their season at that same event in February.

2.  Patrick Traynor shot an even-par 213 in his second collegiate tournament last season and his tie for third was the top individual finish by a Fighting Hawk in 2016-17. His total is the third-best, 54-hole score in UND's DI era.

3.  McClintock, Ryan Ames, Jeremy Kirk and Daniel Sayler were all named to the All-Big Sky Spring Academic Team following last season.

4.  Newcomer Cole Kerns posted 23 top-10 finishes, 17 top-5 finishes and won five tournaments during his prep career at Vanguard Preparatory College in Texas.

5.  True freshman and Grand Forks native Keaton Wolf was ranked the No. 3 player in the state of North Dakota as a senior for Red River High School.

Head Coach Tim Swanson on the upcoming season
"It's always exciting to get a new season underway. We have a core group of veterans that have played a lot of golf here at UND and our two newcomers (Cole Kerns and Keaton Wolf) will need to lean on them to learn how to compete at the college level.

"As we get underway this weekend in Nebraska, I really want the guys to work hard at being consistent throughout the season. We have the ability to put good rounds together and improve our results, but we need to avoid those one or two holes that can really hurt your score.

"One thing that will help that is we are playing in a number of familiar tournaments and several of our guys will have played numerous rounds on these courses. I think having that comfort level will really help our consistency."
